Travel Map

All in due time, this is going to be the new home of my Google Mash-up Visited Country map, a more in-depth version of the ones found at http://douweosinga.com/projects/visitedcountries

But for now, here’s my list:

Since I’ve been here in Spain this time around, I’ve been to:

  • Sevilla
  • Murcia
  • Torrevieja (where Pat’s beach house is, though I only saw the beach for about an hour and spent the rest of the time with food poisoning)
  • Cologne, Germany
  • Cádiz (twice, once for Carnaval)
  • Arcos de la Frontera
  • Sevilla (a couple more times, once for fería)
  • Paris
  • Granada
  • Madrid, more times than I can count
  • Lisbon, Sintra, and Porto, Portugal
  • Pamplona
  • Conil de la Frontera, Cádiz

Possible upcoming travel wishes include Portugal (Lisbon? Porto?) and a return to Morocco, as well as more Spanish travel. I’d like to see a night of Carnaval in Cádiz; Málaga and its beaches might be nice;I think I am going to have to skip Las Fallas (sadly). The North is still undiscovered but won’t be for long with my friend Anna living in Pamplona.

Here are countries/cities I’ve visited: (this is really self-indulgent, so bear with me)

Italy (Rome, Florence, Venice), England (London, Bath, Cambridge, Oxford), Ireland (Dublin), Germany (Frankfurt, Cologne, Bacharach, and let’s not forget the Frankfurt-Hahn airport), Sweden (Gothenburg and Stockholm), France (Paris), Belgium (Brussels and Brugge), Luxembourg (Luxembourg City), Morocco (Tangier), Portugal (Lisbon, Sintra, Porto), Spain (Murcia, Torrevieja, Córdoba, Sevilla, Madrid, Alicante, Barcelona, San Javier/Mar Menor, Granada, Valencia, Cartagena, Cádiz, Arcos de la Frontera, Chiclana de la Frontera, Conil de la Frontera, and a fair amount of random little pueblos).

Plus the U.S. and Canada but still no Mexico.

Amazing how humbling that map is, huh? You start to feel well-traveled, but then there’s so much left to see! I’ve gotta get out of Europe and start traveling somewhere where I’ve got more than Monopoly money…but I plan on enjoying it while I can.

Emily,

This is Pam Sveinson, from West Yellowstone. I had a great talk with your mom on the phone this week and she forwarded me your blog. I enjoyed reading it…you are an insightful young woman, perhaps observant beyond your years. While every day there isn’t stunning to you now, you can trust that you’ll carry these days with you the rest of your life and will learn and be enriched by them more than you can imagine now.

I’ll check in on this every once in while. Take care of yourself and enjoy your life’s experiences.

Pam
